Idaho like most states requires an EMT or Paramedic to complete a state approved emergency medical program as part of the certification process. The EMT will also have to provide documentation that they have passed the National Registry EMT Written Exam or NREMT. This exam is considered by the state of Idaho as validation that the EMT or Paramedic candidate knows the required material set forth in the Department of Transportation EMT Curriculum. You must also have a current CPR certification.

The written portion of the NREMT exam is given at a Pearson VUE testing center (or state run mobile units) and is now delivered via a computer testing application rather than an actual paper exam. The test will consist of between 70 and 150 questions. Each EMT question is assigned a level of difficulty that you will not be made aware of. Your answer to the question determines whether you get a harder question or and easier question.

The practical portion of the NREMT exam will be given at a common testing station. You will be notified of the location once it is approved. There you will need to demonstrate proficiency in most basic EMT assessment and treatment techniques. With all your documentation together you must fill out the Idaho EMS Provider Application and submit all to Idaho Emergency Medical Services for approval.
